Acronis vmprotect 7
Ok, scenario.
We planned to have:
2x Hosts esxi5
2x appliances (installed on each host)
Run a 2-3hr replication job from host1 to host 2 (and vice-versa) between working hours (as the hosts are pretty powerfull).
Run a full VM backup every night from both hosts/appliances to NAS .
Managed to get a single VM replicated from host1 to host2, simulated host1 failure, failed over, powered on host2. failed back. Ok it took some time but worked.
In setting up replications between the hosts & appliances the jobs failed miserably. It appears to be a limitation on the esxi or API only able to handle a single snapshot at a time.
So, created a single job per host with all VM's in. This worked on one host but the other (after approx 4hrs) failed. Currently logging this with acronis (but rather slow at getting back to me).
Essentially its not a) quick enough and b) too temperamental.
We also have a single veeam server which is running extremely well and backing up very fast, over 75% quicker for backups. It would appear that CBT isn't working on acronis. How can i prove this?
Is there anything wrong from my end in terms of config?

i'm no expert on vmProtect (using less than a month) and no VMware guru, but i'd recommend trying to resolve the "virtual machines do not have VMware Tools installed" issue by installing the tools. From my understanding it's kind of important for coordinating Windows VSS and snapshots... and helpful not just for Acronis...

Hello everyone,
Thank you for posting and thank you for your assistance Vincent.
chi-ltd, I found your support cases in our system and we are currently working on the issues that you reported. It appears that the problems you posted in the forum are different to the ones from your cases.
We are really sorry that you experienced these issues with our software and I would like to provide you with a couple of solutions and ask you for additional information.
Regarding the errors in the backup logs that you posted. It appears that one of the VMs (called “Test Win2008_Server) which the software tried to back up had only one virtual hard that was empty (no volumes or partitions were created on this disk). As a result the backup of this disk was skipped and the VM backup operation had been finished with the error message that we can see in the log:
38 Error 5/3/12 1:53:57 PM Cannot find any disk or volumes to back up. The operation has been terminated.
After that the software proceed backing up next VMs successfully but as a result the overall task execution status is failed with the following error:
"63 Error 5/3/12 3:12:27 PM Task 'Daily_Full_6pm_Backups_from_Host2_to_NAS' failed: 'Failed to create a backup.

The backup task failure is expected behavior, however the error at the end is not very clear, so we apologize for the inconvenience.
We have created a task to clarify the error message.
Could you please get back to us with additional information about two other issues mentioned in your post. When you wrote that our software created a single snapshot at a time, is there some specific issue that you experienced? The thing is there is a limitation that only one backup or replication task can work with the same VM but if you try to replicate one host to another and visa versa using different Acronis vmProtect agents then the software should work fine.
We've tried to reproduce the “double replication” tasks in our local environment. So we used two different ESXi hosts, installed two virtual appliances with Acronis vmProtect on these hosts and performed replication from one host to another and visa versa simultaneously. We have not encountered any problems performing this operation and the replication had been completed successfully. Because of that we need to check the logs that were generated on your Acronis vmProtect agent to find the real cause of the replication failure.
Regarding CBT: we do offer full CBT support, could you please provide us with additional information.
Could you please get back to us with additional information about your Veeam configuration, what type of backup is it and where do you save the backup. Please also send us a configuration of Acronis software usage to compare the installations. Could you also send me a private message with the config files?
Looking forward to your reply and if you have additional questions please let me know.
Thank you.

Hi Chi-ltd,
In our Tuesday's conversation I believe we have figured out the performance issues with Acronis vmProtect Virtual Appliance which turned out to be just a virtual hardware version-related ones. I have submitted a KB article on that issue (just as we discussed) and made it publicly available here. Please let me or Andrew (who also worked with you on behalf of our support team) know if there are any other issues left and I will work closely with him and our developers to ensure that we resolve all these issues for you.
It is sad for me to find that we came up with the solution may be too late, but still I'm glad that this issue has been brought up and we could reveal the root cause of it. We value every feedback and especially negative ones as it helps us build up stronger product which meets our customers' expectations.
P.S. I have tried to make this post on Veeam forum also (in this thread related to this problem), however for some reasons it didn't pass the premoderation and my account was deleted right away. Looks funny to see how they deal with Acronis :)
P.P.S. Please also check my reply in this thread related to CBT usage with replication.
Thank you.
