Adding a 2nd Network to Appliance

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to set up a second network that is isolated to only 1 interface.  For example datastores, nfs or cifs networks that have no gateway programmed nor is routed.  BUT the virtual machine is plugged into that network.  I'd want all datastore traffic routed through those network interfaces.  Meanwhile the front end actuall is routable and reachable on another interface.

Is this doable?

So the actual appliance would be installed and maintained on a routed network the actual transfer between datastore and the software would be on (for example) a 10GbE switch.

Hi Steve,

Yes, this is possible - you can create a dedicated vSwitch for internal LAN traffic and connect virtual appliance to this vSwitch + add another NIC to appliance configuration which will be used for management. Note that this NIC must be VMXNET3 type and it must be added as described in https://kb.acronis.com/content/32820 - see steps 2 through 4.

After that you need to ensure that the 1st network has "VM kernel" configured on it and the ESXi host is registered in Acronis Backup using IP from this network segment.

Thank you.

I have restrictions on the VM because the appliance was version 7.  I need to update the VM to version 11.  Do you see any issues with the appliance if I updated it to V11?

It does not allow for VMXNET 3 as as a secondary ethernet device.

Hi Steve,

Yes, appliance can be updated to virtual hardware 11 - there should be no problems with that.

Thank you.
