Application VSS Writer Disabled Error

Thread needs solution

I am trying to setup a new VM backup and when I choose the setting for VM's that are Application Aware and login I get this error message:

SqlServerWriter, NTDS VSS writer is missing or disabled. Please make sure that corresponding VSS writer is installed inside the backed up VM. You can check the list of installed VSS writers by "vssadmin list writers" command.

When I run the 'vssadmin list writers' command it displays many writers and this is the section related to the two mentioned:

Hi!

This issue should be investigated separately and first of all you should check whether the backed up VM satisfies the following requirements (see details in http://kb.acronis.com/content/31347 )

1) Disk.EnableUUID is set to 'True' in VM properties (in .vmx)
2) There is either UAC disabled or there is Acronis Backup Agent installed inside the VM (it can be extracted as .msi from the main installation package)
3) Taking a quiesced snapshot of the VM produces proper vss_manifest***.zip outputs (which contain backup.xml + writerX.xml files for each VSS writer inside the VM)

If all these items are checked and Ok, then please capture Windows system information outputs (.nfo) from the backed up VM + the backup log from running of the backup task (you can still save the task and run it despite the warning which appears in the backup wizard when enabling app-aware processing) and contact our support team for further investigation.

Thank you.
