Backup to External Drive

Thread needs solution

Hi guys.

Noob question.

I have VMProtect 8 installed as an appliance. Can I backup to an external hard drive connected to the server or do I need to backup to a NAS or PC on the network and then copy to the external drive.

Thanks

Hi,

While there is no way to write backup data directly to external USB drive connected to the ESXi host, there are several ways to achieve the goal:

1) Install vmProtect Windows Agent on the machine which has external drive attached to it
2) Attach the external drive to some PC and share it over network (back up to it as to a simple share)
3) Back up to NAS and then copy the archive over to USB drive.

P.S. in the next version we're planning to add ability to connect external USB drives directly to appliance and format them to be used as backup repository (formatting will likely be into ext3 file system).

Thank you.
