Backup jobs on Exchange 2010 server VM unpractical

Thread needs solution

Dear Forums,

We have an Exchange 2010 (MB/HT/CAS), The vmprotect backup the VM successfully . However this backup job does not append the exchange logs and also backup everything as whole. so single item recovery is not possible. If I would to restore a single email of mailbox i would first need to restore the whole database which is not practical.

Can vmprotect append the exchange logs so I do not have to do this manually?
Can vmprocect provide single item recovery for easier and faster restores?

Hi Waldemar,

Acronis Backup for VMware (former vmProtect) can perform granular Exchange items recovery from VM backups. In order to do so you need to create backup with "application-aware" option turned on for the VM. When you enable this option (4th step of the backup wizard) you will also see an option for automatic logs truncation. There is definitely no need to extract entire database in order to perform mailbox/e-mails recovery if you create application-aware backups.

Thank you.
