Backup VMware Replication Target

Thread needs solution

I am using VMware 5.5 Replication.

Is it possible to then backup the VM at the Target site?

Using VMware Replication to a DR site (target) is it possible to then create a backup of the VM on the DR site (target). Does the VMware replication process need to shutdown during the Acronis Backup to Tape process?

If I am keeping several VMware replicated point in time images at the DR site can I choose to backup one of these images? Can this be easily automated?

Many thanks

Hi Paul,

The vSphere replication doesn't seem to expose any limitations on snapshot capabilities which means that both source and replica VMs can be snapshoted and therefore backed up. In other words you should be able to back up both of these VMs in parallel while vSphere replication is running.

What concerns multiple point-in-time images backup - likely you will be able to back up only the most recent state of the replica VM, i.e. it's current state which will be captured in the snapshot.

P.S. There were issues with recovery of VMs into original location, but they were resolved in vSphere 5.5 according to http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cm…

Thank you.
