Configure a backup storage (SAN/FC)
Good day,
I've installed Acronis VMprotect 9 with vCenter Appliance integration.
My favorite storage to save my backups all the day is an Infortrend FibreChannel (SAN-Storage) 5,7 TB with is attached at all ESXi Hosts.
VMware Version: 6.0.0 Update 2
Now I can't save from my Acronis Appliance to my storage because Acronis can't see this.
Which options I have?
1. I create an Server 2012 (only an example) and configure a big virtual HDD to my Infortrend?
2. I create a new HDD directly attached to my Acronis Appliance (I think this is not possible?)
Any other ideas?

Hi ToWa,
Yes, in your scenario you should use Local Attached Storage, i.e. a virtual disk attached to appliance which has 2TB limit in the current version. The limit comes from the fact that appliance can recognize only MBR disks as local storages which are 2TB max. This limit will be removed in the next version of Acronis Backup for VMware which is coming later this year.
One suggestion which might help you here is to use Acronis Backup for VMware Windows Agent and attach your SAN to the same Windows machine in order to use it as local backup repository which will be free from 2TB limit. However in this case the backup won't be completely LAN free, since Windows Agent will read data from the ESXi 6.0 host using network interface (see https://kb.acronis.com/content/57352). LAN-free backup in "direct SAN access" mode is not possible with vSphere 6.0 which works with x64 version of VMware VDDK only while the current version of Acronis Backup for VMware is x32 bit - this is also changed in the upcoming new version where installation binaries will be provided in both x32 and x64 formats and x64 version will support full LAN-free mode for Windows Agent.
Thank you.
