the disk is full

Thread needs solution

hi everyone,

Is there a maximum size for the backup file created with Acronis?

We try to backup a virtual machine to a nas, but always get the error that the disk is full, but he isn't full.

Thx for a reply

Mathias

Hello Mathias,

Welcome to Acronis forums! There are no limitations for the archive size, however, the free space might be counted incorrectly, if there are any errors or bad sectors in the file system. I'd start with checking the source and target drives for errors.

I'd also recommend taking a read of the following discussions where similar issues have been resolved

hi Ekaterina,

Thanks for your answer. unfortunately, I didn't found an exact answer.

I want to backup 4 virtuals machines, I use 4 separate backup tasks, for each vm one.

Our data server is about 9.5tb. Acronis generates an error at exactly 8tb.

I checked our Nas (Synology) and with the newest firmware, it supports up to 16tb, so that is no problem.

In some posts, I am reading about a different version of Acronis, wich supports 64bit or something.

Could that be a solution? Can I download this from the support website of Acronis?

thx

Mathias

Hello Mathias,

Discussed with the RnD - you can use the build 10558 with x64 kernel-based appliance inside to overcome the issue

Download the installation file, then deploy a new appliance and test the backup.

Let me know if this helps.

hi Ekaterina,

I deployed the appliance, downloaden from your ftp server.

We don't receive a "disk is full" error anymore,

but now, the backup is still failing (1 of 4 tasks) with this error:

30    Error    11/12/18 3:03:03 AM    Task 'Back up SRVPDCXPE01' failed: 'Failed to create a backup.

Hello Mathias,

is this the whole and only error message thrown upon a failure? It's too generic, I suppose there should be more information. If possible, could you attach the whole operation log?

Thank you! Unfortunately, the log doesn't contain any information about the root cause of the failure. Could you please create a new thread for this issue  https://forum.acronis.com/node/add/forum and provide the following information about the faulty job:

- Does the failing job contain VMs from the same host as other tasks?
- Does the failing job somehow differ from the successful tasks?
- Is it possible to create a manual snapshot of the virtual machine in question as follows?

1. Open the vSphere connection to the ESX host
2. Right click on the machine > take snapshot > check the "Quiesce guest file system"
3. Uncheck the "Snapshot the virtual machine's memory" and click OK
4. Run the snapshot

Thank you!
