Hi,

In fact any version of Acronis vmProtect is working with the same number of ESXi versions starting from ESX(i) 4.0. The only difference between 6th and 8th version in this regard is support for ESXi 5.1. Can you please clarify what kind of VMFS 3.33 compatibility is lacking in the latest version?

P.S. from what I have checked the 6th version is unavailable for direct download from the website, while it should be (http://www.acronis.com/support/updates/index.html), so I've reported it to our webmasters. In case you do need the 6th version you should contact our support team who can give you the direct link.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for the details! In fact it is a slight inconsistency in the user guide which we will correct. It should state support for vSphere versions 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1. Really there was nothing changed between 6th and 8th version in terms of supported vSphere versions (except for added support for 5.1). The changes were done in the user guide description in 7/8th version since 4.0 is supported with some exceptions (you can find this information a few strokes below the ones you highlighted on the screen shot). We will add direct reference to this section so that it won't be so confusing.

The error message "File is larger than the maximum size supported by datastore" is coming from VMware itself and you will get it in any case when trying to create a snapshot of the affected VM. The issue here is that the snapshot by default is created on the datastore which holds the configuration of the VM (.vmx) while there could be old VMFS version on this datastore which doesn't support large disks (required to create the snapshot delta). At the same time this VM has virtual disks attached which are located on different datastore with higher VMFS version and thus with proper support for large disks. You can check the details of this issue and possible solution in the following KB article:

http://kb.acronis.com/content/31362

In other words there are no reasons to use 6th version instead of 7th or 8th one :)

Thank you.

Cool Vasily,

I will investigate which way to go, since the problem occurs in the production environment and have no backup ... wow

Thank you again ;)

Is there like an Archive site where I can search to download a specific old version please?

Hi!,

The older builds are available for download right from My Products section under your account management on our website. You should see the previous versions (if you had them) and click on "Download older builds..." link. See the attached screen shot showing where to look at.

Thank you.
