E Mail Notificatons Issues

Thread needs solution

I am trying to configure the email notification section.

I am using smtp.gmail.com and have entered the appropriate user and password, using port 587 and TLS.

When I click the "send test e-mail message" link, a dialog box pops up with the title "Password", and a space to enter what appears to be a password.

My question is: What is this about, and what password is it expecting? This seems to be an intermittent problem, since it worked earlier.
It is not a firewall issue, since I have other programs that use smtp.gmail.com without problems.

From the vCenter Plug-in, I try to send a test and it just sits there with the Progress dialog saying "Sending...." and I have to close it manually.

I rebooted the vmProtect appliance and web client and am getting the same problem.

By the way, I can relay through a local SMTP server to gmail, so it seems like there is a problem with vmProtect communicating with an external SMTP sever.

OK, so re-typing the Password in the Password box seems to "fix" the password dialog box issue, even though it's the same password.

Changing the smtp.gmail.com to an IP address seems to help, so it seems there may be some DNS lookup issue. The DNS server setting in the appliance is correct, I've checked that.

Any ideas?

Hello SCX,

Thank you for posting.

We will need additional information to get to the bottom of this issue.

Could you please reply with the following information:

1. Operation logs.

2. Screenshot of the pop-up.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I am not comfortable posting logs to a public forum. A typical row is below:
