Exchange and SQL compatibility

Thread needs solution

Hi just wondering if vmprotect works seamlessly with Exchange 2010 and SQL 2008? is it able to do a backup without having to shutdown those services? and will it flush/ commit the exchange 2010 logs?

Hello Kieron,

Thank you for your question. I will certainly help you with it.

The backup routine leverages the vStorage API which means that the backup is performed via reading data from quiesced snapshot executed on behalf of VMware tools (using Microsoft VSS), thus ensuring the consistency of the data inside the backup. There is no need to shutdown those service and transaction logs will not be flushed.

We will add special support for truncating the transaction logs of Exchange server into the next product update. Currently the backup of VMs hosting Exchange/SQL servers does not trunctate these logs automatically.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I am testing the VMProtect solution and I can not backup using the VSS to create a snap shot on my SQL server. I have to stop the MS SQL server and it works fine. I would love to have a work around. I scheduled the SQL server to stop durring the time of the scheduled backup. Not an ideal situation.
