Exchange restore

Thread needs solution

Hello

I just wanted to restore some folders of an exchange mailbox. I couldn't neither restore single items nor folders. The error message I get is this:

Hi,

The main error here is "JET_errDiskIO, Disk IO error" which is described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314917/en-us . It basically means that there is an Exchange database corruption inside the backup archive. Acronis vmProtect mounts the VM (Run VM from Backup) with the Exchange database, then executes C:\WINDOWS\Acronis\exchange_items_restore_agent.exe module which accesses the Exchange database inside the mounted VM. So the issue occurs at this stage.

There are several possible reasons for such behavior:

1) The Exchange database (Mailbox database) was corrupted at the moment of backup and thus archive contains non-valid database
2) The Exchange database (Mailbox database) somehow got corrupted during mounting. This is an unlikely reason, but it needs to be checked

To localize the issue, first of all check that the original Exchange DB is healthy (on original VM) via eseutil tool. If it's Ok, then perform Run VM from Backup of the same recovery point from which you try to restore Exchange items and perform the same test via eseutil (to ensure that there is no corruption in mounted VM). If it's corrupted, then create a new backup of Exchange VM (after you confirm that its database is Ok) and try running mailboxes recovery from there.
