"Failed to delete recovery points".

Thread needs solution

Hi guys,

I use in my environment vmProtect 9 and failures as "the archive are corrupted" and "failed to delete the recovery points" are happening several times in my virtual machines randomly.
Why and how these failures are happening? How to identify and correct them?

Hi!

First of all it makes sense to verify the backup archive via Actions->Validate from vmProtect interface. It could be that some of the recovery points (not all) are indeed corrupt inside the backup archive and this leads to such errors. Obviously corrupt recovery points cannot be deleted from the archive. I'd identified the affected archives first via validation and re-created them thereafter.

Thank you.

Hi,

Typically the reasons are rooted on hardware level, for example data transfer failures due to network faults or target device glitches. The archive corruption means that the checksums of the sectors recorded in the backup (at the time when backup was created) do not match the checksums calculated on fly (when you validate the backup). The archive corruption may be detected even when the archive itself is good in fact, but the problem is on the data transmission level (for example some glitching NAS device) - in this case it helps to move the archive to another storage.

Thank you.
