Failed to enable Changed Blocks Tracking

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have a Linux appliances VM from Symantec. When I run the backup, I got "Failed to enable Changed Blocks Tracking". But, the backup was succeeded. Am I safe to trust the backup? Please see the log attached.

Thanks,
Aldous

Hi Aldous,

This message just means that incremental backup is not performed in best efficient way - this backup is still valid, but can be faster if CBT is utilized. Probably the CBT was disabled on these machines on purpose for whatever reasons. You can check the .vmx file of the VMs for ctk.enabled flags (for each volume) - probably it is forcibly disabled. Also see the following VMware KB article which describes how to manually enable CBT:

Thank you.
