Failed to mount the SMB share

Thread needs solution

We just made a large purchase for many licenses for your software VMProtect 9 and plan to purchase more if this solution is worthy. I have two backup jobs, I can get one backup job to backup successfully, but the other backup job is failing with the error in the subject line. The job that errors is using identical settings, it's pointing to the same SMB share, and it's connected to the same ESXi host as the other job is. Here are the error(s). Why would one backup task succeed with the same login and password as the ones that fail.

Failed to open the archive for writing.

Is there some sort of cache we can clear inside of VMProtect appliance? I've restarted the appliance with no luck.

Hi Scott,

This error is typically given for specific shares which cannot be opened by Linux asamba module used in appliance installation of vmProtect. It is strange that the other task on the same appliance works fine with the same share (the behavior should be the same for both tasks). In order to figure out what's going wrong can you please save the full log from View->Show Logs->Save all to file and send me a private message? I will guide you from there.

Thank you.

Hi Gareth,

Typically in any thread where we discuss an issue and take it into private there is a reason for it. For example here the "failed to mount SMB share" problem is tied to particular environment and therefore having the discussion in public won't be of big help to anyone else having similar problem, since it's related to specifics of customized SMB shares (NAS devices for example) and therefore the fix is unique for particular SMB share. I usually post the final solution into the original thread after it had been resolved in private, so that community is aware of what happened.

P.S. In this thread I've not heard back from Scott unfortunately, so we haven't moved forward :( If you have the same issue please proceed as I described above.

Thank you.
