Failed to open the archive for appending changes - This is not the last volume of the backup archive.

hi, i got installed acronis vmprotect 7 and it works with no problem, since the upgrade to version 8 i had some errors in different backup task, one of the most often is "Failed to open the archive for appending changes." and then "This is not the last volume of the backup archive." , sometimes the job work perfectly, i need some help, this is part of the log:

Hi Victor,

From what I can see you continue backing up into archive which had been created with 7th version and the symptoms you describe can be caused by this fact. Another possible reason is the specifics of the network share which some times fails to process the request for opening the archive.

This issue needs to be investigated and localized first:

Please first of all try specifying new archive name for the backup task (to start new archives chain) and monitor this task to see if it fails with the same error or not
Second thing to try is to back up to some alternative location (i.e. different network share) if you have such opportunity.

After that please submit a request to our support team with the results of the above checks so that we can define the next course of actions.

We've got the same problem - using version 9 (no upgrade for loooong time):

Additional info:
1) No change of backup job last x months
2) No change in environment last x months (same W2008R2 std server with file share)
3) Three other backup jobs (from same Acronis virtual appliance) to same share are running OK
4) When trying to change the archive file name, cannot open share from Acronis. Login OK, but never shows share directory.
5) build 9.2.10.571

Actions:
1) Restart file server with share
2) Restart Acronis instance
3) Try to create new backup job. Get login page, login OK, but fails to open share (waited for ~30 min)
4) Try to view recovery points, manages (after 30-40 secs) to open share. Recovery ponts are from last night for three VMs, the failing VM backup has recovery point from last week. This is consistent with the error messages.

Hi,

If the share cannot be opened from web console interface - this likely means that either it's IP address has changed or some other cached information is recorded on Acronis Backup for VMware (appliance) side (in the meta folder of the backup location). It makes sense to access the share via IP address (for example \\192.168.1.12\Backup3\Acronis\) and if this still doesn't work then contact our support team for assistance.

The share is accessible from other servers, but not from Acronis. And the backup is running OK for the three other VM backups to same share.
