How to migrate Acronis to new Cluster?

Thread needs solution

I have 2 VMWare clusters. Cluster A has it’s own SAN, 2 hosts and a Virtual Center running as a Virtual Machine. Cluster B has it’s own SAN, 2 hosts and a physical Virtual Center. Acronis Backup for VMware (running latest available version from website) is installed on Cluster A. Cluster A is going to have it’s SAN replaced, hosts upgraded and the virtual center rebuilt and transitioned to a DR location. The Acronis Backup for VMWare needs to move to Cluster B and continue to backup the virtual machines on Cluster B.

I see that the Agent is installed on Cluster A’s Virtual Center machine. How do I transition the Acronis Backup for VMWare from Cluster A to Cluster B? Do I just browse Cluster A’s datastore, copy and paste the datastore contents to Cluster B’s SAN? How do I install the client onto Cluster B’s Virtual Center? Right now, I use my local desktop’s web browser to connect to the Acronis Backup for VMWare interface to manage backups.

Hi Eric,

Since you have 2 separate clusters which are managed by 2 separate vCenters it makes more sense to use 2 separate virtual appliances of Acronis Backup for VMware in each site. If right now you have Acronis Backup for VMware appliance installed in Cluster A and it backs up Cluster B - then it's not a good configuration from performance perspective, since the data for backup from Cluster B will be read over network.

To implement your scenario I'd recommended to use the Acronis Backup for VMware configuration export/import capability, i.e. do the following:

1) From the web interface go to Configure->Agent settings->Export/Import configuration and save the configuration file
2) Deploy a new Acronis Backup for VMware Virtual Appliance in Cluster B by using the installation package which you can download from our site from your account management interface (it makes more sense to use virtual appliance instead of Windows Agent in order not to worry about installing a separate Windows VM)
3) From the web interface connected to new appliance import the previously saved configuration file

The backup tasks configured to protect Cluster B VMs will continue to run on the new appliance (since the IDs of the protected instances have not changed), but you should make sure that the backup location used before (if it was some network share) will be accessible from the new location. If these were local backup files then you can simply copy the .tib files to new location to the same paths as they were in the old site.

Thank you.
