Licensing for dual processor servers /V9 upgrade

Thread needs solution

I have a dual processor server, installed VmProtect V8. When I bought this I had to buy 2 licenses (one per socket).
I am looking to purchase the V9 upgrade: Do I need to buy 2 license upgrades?
On the product page I see that one license is good for two CPU's.

Also, on Quad Core Sockets there are 4 CPU's so for two quad core there are 8 CPU's. I am confused...

Any definition/clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Constantine,

If you had 2 licenses of vmProtect 8 then you'll need 2 Upgrade licenses for vmProtect 9 accordingly. The licensing scheme is the same, i.e. we use per-CPU licensing in both versions.

The amount of CPUs is calculated by browsing the vSphere inventory and checking the properties of the ESX/ESXi hosts. In other words vmProtect will find the same number of CPUs as are discovered by vSphere itself. See the attached screen shot showing where to look at. Note that the number of cores doesn't matter here. The main concern is about the amount of physical CPUs. So if you have 1 CPU with 4 cores, then you will need 1 vmProtect license for it (just like VMware).

Thank you.

Thanks for that. It saves a lot of confusion on my end.
