licensing question about replication

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have 2 ESXi hosts with 1 CPU each.

All live VMs are running on Host1.
vmProtect should also run on Host1 and replicate VMs to Host2.

How many vmProtect licenses do I need?
1 or 2 ?

Regards
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

In case you have 2 separate ESXi hosts which are not parts of a VMware Cluster managed by vCenter, you will need 1 license for the source host only. Replication and backup operations consume licenses only for the source host.

The exception from this rule is VMware cluster: if you back up a VM from one ESX(i) which is a part of cluster then licenses are consumed for all other hosts inside the same cluster as well (assuming that you register vCenter in Configure->ESXi hosts).

Thank you.
