Recovery fails with "Error code: 7 'Disk is not found'"

Thread needs solution

I want to do a test recovery of a VM, but the job keeps failing. The error which stops the process is:

--------------------
Error code: 1
Module: 10
LineInfo: 6b87e19a45f35d78
Fields:
Message: Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 7 'Disk is not found. Make sure that all the hard disks are installed in your computer.'
--------------------

I habe no idea what is causing this. The recovery has been working before. I did not do a recovery test for some months and I have updated ESXi to 5.5 update3 and Acronis vmProtect 9.0 to the newest version in between.

I'm aware of a similar error with IDE, but the machine has SCSI disks. I do the restore to a different host, not the original one.

Anyone have ideas?

It's not super urgent as there is no need to do a restore, but I would like to know that my backups are ok. Full error log is attached.

Best Regards
Ben

Hi Ben,

The problem is related to disk attach process which is performed during recovery: the Acronis Backup for VMware first creates a VM with blank disks, then attaches these disks to itself and then performs data recovery onto these disks. What happens here is that the disk attach fails for some reasons. You should try the following:

1) Try rebooting the virtual appliance: there may be some virtual disk links left attached to appliance and reboot should help to clean this up

2) If the above doesn't help try deploying a fresh appliance and perform recovery using it. This step will localize the issue to find out whether it is related to particular (old) appliance state or the particular recovered image/other factors.

Thank you.

Hello Vasily!

Restart did not help. I installed a new appliance and performed recovery successfully with it. I think I will reconfigure the new appliance and just delete the old one.

Thanks

Hi Ben,

Also note that there is an option to save Acronis Backup for VMware configuration: Configure->Agent Settings->Export/Import Configuration, so you can deploy a fresh appliance and easily migrate your backup settings to it.

Thank you.
