Replication error after expanding disk

Thread needs solution

Hi Acronis Forum / Support

After expanding the disk (C:) of one server the vmreplica isn't able to restore from the backup:

The backup task is showing no errors or warnings, status: completed successfully.
But in the restore dialog there are an E: and a F: drive, both empty, instead of the C: and E: drive.
So the replication has to be corrupted anyway.
Restoring from other replicas (from other servers) is no problem.
Is this a known issue? I found nothing in the kb.

As a first step I deleted the replication and created a new one. Wonder if this will work, I will see it tomorrow. But it's still strange...

Any ideas?

With kind regards

Schoggii

Hi!

It's not completely clear whether you are referring to VM replication or to backup functionality. Assuming that you've created backup of some VM, then resized its system disk (C:) and after that ran the backup task again (to produce incremental backup) - there should be no problems with the recovery from this last incremental backup. I've just tested this scenario and it appears to work properly. It makes sense to contact our support team with the description of the issue (how large was the C: drive originally, to what size it was resized, screen shots of the recovery wizard, etc.) so that we can localize and figure out the problem.

P.S. I can only guess that the problem could be related to a known CBT issue, where VMware CBT record gets broken when the virtual disk is resized by more than 128GB. Though we were unable to reproduce such behavior in our QA lab (we've tried multiple combinations to no avail) and ensured that this problem won't affect Acronis archives (we also use different algorithms to detect the changes on disks besides CBT). See http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cm…

Thank you.
