Restore and preserve MAC-Address (vmprotect7)

Thread needs solution

How can I restore a machine and preserve the original MAC-Address?
After a restore to a different location I have a "new" NIC in the host.
For the restored host was a new MAC-Address generated.

I want to restore without changing the nic-settings.

The problem:
If you start the restored machine all network settings are lost, due to the new nic.

Replication has the same problem!!!

Here is what you need to do:

You need to give all the NIC's in the VM NIC's a manual MAC address.

I used the same MAC they were automatically asigned but place this in the manual MAC field in vSphere.

I only tested this with restore not replication.

Hello Andy, and David,

Thank you for your comments, and for bringing this question up.

Andy, David is absolutely correct. You need to specify MAC in the vSphere. During the recovery we create a new NIC, and copy the settings from the original machine. If it had a dynamic MAC, then the new machine will have dynamic MAC, if manual - then the new machine will have a manual one.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

i am reading here an restore of an vm will allways loose the network settings? will definitly test this now.. i cant believe this is true...
and if it would be true is there really not a way for development to solve this? does vmprotect not copy the vmx configuration files?
restoring this file in a moved stated would preserve the mac adress right?
