SharePoint 2013 and SQL Sever 2012

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We are using Acronis vmProtect 9 (build 9.0.10006), and now I have problems doing additional backup tasks;

We have a environment with Sharepoint 2013, front Sharepoint server is running on Windows 2012 and the SQL is SQL Server 2012 running on Windows 2008 R2.

When I select the additional backups tasks, for the first server (SharePoint 2013) said "No applications detected" and the SQL Server said "VMWare tools are not available", both servers has latest VMWare tools installed and the user used to login is the domain administrator...

Meanwhile our Exchange server are doing backups correctly.

Could you help us?

Thanks you in advance,
Carlos.

Hi Carlos,

You should perform application-aware backup of the Win2k8 R2 VM which holds the SQL databases. For SharePoint it doesn't make sense to perform app-aware backup of the front-end server which doesn't hold the actual data. The problem backing it up should be investigated separately. I'd recommended contacting our support team for assistance and re-install VMware tools just in case (likely there are some errors in vmware.log for this SQL VM which need to be checked).

Thank you.

The issue is already solved by the GREAT technical support, and now should have a KB with an explanation for this issue.

Thanks again,
Carlos.

Hi Carlos,

Yes, it was me actually connecting to your environment during remote assistance session with our support team ;)

The problem ("VMware tools are not available") was that the VMware Tools were in "Installing" state and thus didn't respond properly to API calls. The solution was to right-click on VM->Guest->End VMware Tools Installation . This action unmounted the VMware Tools installation CD and properly finished the installation, so that VMware Tools started to reply to API calls.

Thanks again for your help and time spent for troubleshooting!

Thank you.
