Snapshots and Packet Loss

Thread needs solution

I am using vmProtect and and I have noticed If I start a ping to a vm to be backed up, once a snapshot is created I lose at least 1 packet

Then when the snapshot is removed I lose at least 1 packet

On most machines not an issue however with Exchange and SQL servers causes clients to lose connection

Does anyone else experience this issue?

I have already tried re-installing vmware tools and am using the paravirtual controller already.

Hi,

The issue seems to be more related to the specifics of the VMware snapshots behavior. There are several articles describing the behavior, for example (the vmware.log of the VM contains the exact time when machine is "frozen"):

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&doc…

I've seen cases when the MS cluster service caused cluster failover to another node (while the 1st node was snapshotted) and this could be avoided by increasing the timeout between the cluster hearbeats. I'd recommended contacting VMware support in order to figure out whether somethin can be done to prevent such disconnects during the snapshots.

Thank you.
