SQL Server 2014 and MS Exchange 2013 mailbox support?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Does anyone know when support for SQL 2014 and Exchange 2013 mailbox or email recovery will be in Acronis Backup for VMWare 9?

Hi,

Support for Exchange 2013 mailboxes recovery is planned for the next version of Acronis Backup for VMware (pending for next year - I can't/not allowed to share more precise date at the moment). What concerns SQL Server 2014 - we haven't specifically tested application-aware backup of a VM running SQL 2014, however it should work already (SQL databases recovery is not really affected by SQL server version, since the VSS metadata format must be very similar). The official support for SQL 2014 is also planned for the next version.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply.

The warning I get when backing up SQL 2014 is:

Error code: 2002
Module: 552
LineInfo: 280d3fa1bd2db704
Fields:
Message: Unsupported version: 12.0.2000

This error appears when I have my SQL servers ticked in step 4 of the task "Choose VMs for Application-Aware Backup and set credentials". When this option isn't ticked the backup completes with no warnings.

I cannot perform a database recovery when the SQL servers are selected for the application-aware backups. When I try I get a warning saying:

There were no MS SQL databases detected in the recovery points of the selected VM. Please make sure that the "Select VMs which run Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server, Active Directory, SharePoint" option is enabled when creating a backup task for VM(s) with Microsoft SQL Server.

Hi,

Looks like there is a hardcoded values of the SQL versions to be detected when you enable application-aware backup option, so there is no way to create application-aware backup of VM running SQL 2014 (need to wait until the next version). What you can do is create usual non-application-aware backup of the VM and restore SQL databases using file recovery feature. Of course there will be no automatic log truncation or automatic discovery of these logs, so it would be a manual process.

Thank you.
