Support request for vmProtect 9 appliance admin password reset

Thread needs solution

Good afternoon,

It happens once in a lifetime and sadly it happened to me too: I changed the password of a vmProtect 9 virtual appliance and typed TWICE something that is not the password I meant to type.

Result: password changed to something unknown and actually the console is not accessible.

Please send me the info on how to proceed and reset the web UI password. The appliance is running on VMware ESXi 5.5.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Kind regards.
Tomasz

Hi! I've sent the instructions in a private message (to access PM, go to My account at the top of a forum page and then to Dialogs)

Hi I also have an issues with a password change on vmProtect V8.0.

I tried following this KB https://kb.acronis.com/content/32036 but didn't work.  I have access via the vsphere console.  I also have the issue where the web console is not showing when browsing to the vm's IP.  So i cannot winSCP into it to replace the lighttp config.

Hi! Could you please share more details on the steps performed and the outcome? Did you receive any error messages?

Hi,

I have the same problem that Unlimited Networks.

Don't can access to web console, I follow next kb: https://kb.acronis.com/content/32036 , https://kb.acronis.com/content/32819 and https://kb.acronis.com/content/50090

File passwd contain this string after apply changes indicate in KB 32036:

root::0:0:root:/tmp/root:/bin/sh

If, when I try to access with winscp to replace file lighttp.config using root:root or admin:root, access is denied. Service sshd is enabled.

Have any other option to replace this file? enable ftp service ?

THanks for your support

Hello Encarna,

did you perform the last two steps from https://kb.acronis.com/content/32036 when resetting the password to a default one?

4. Hit Esc, then type :wq to save the changes
5. Issue reboot command and wait until Virtual Appliance is rebooted;

If the issue still persist, please contact Acronis support team, so that our engineers can help resetting the password.
