viewing downloaded job logs

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm trying to view the downloaded log file. Unfortunately, it's a xml file without the style sheet for formatting. Is there any way to get the style sheet for the log? or export it in a formatted document/html?

Thanks,
Aldous

Hi Aldous,

There is no similar functionality implemented yet - the .xml log file is typically used for problems analysis and we analyze it "as is" via text editor. Can you please clarify your requirements, i.e. what exact operations you would like to perform with the exported log files? We will consider it in the next version of the product.

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

First of all, the current log viewing interface is not flexible enough. For example, after I mounting VM failed, I can't open the log containing my failed task only. It will be easier, if there is a way to select the log entries by combination of "Server", "Date and time", "status" and "Task".

Secondly, when I export, the log contains all other tasks and in XML format. It is not for easy viewing. If there is option to export in other formatted file such as in "HTML" or "CSV" and able to select by range of "server", "date and time", "status" and "task", etc.

Thanks,

Aldous

Hi Aldous,

Thank you for the details, it's much appreciated. Indeed it is not obvious how to properly filter the failed VM mounting activity in the default log viewer and we will definitely fix it in the next version.

Here's one tip which might be helpful for you (or for someone else): when you want to understand why particular backup task failed - there is no need to export the entire log. You can go to View->Tasks and click on the task "Last result" stroke where the task status is shown (see attached screen shot). This action will redirect you to the logs view filtered by this particular task and by event type (error/warning/information).

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

Thanks for the tip. However, I still need to export the log to post it here for help :0(

Anyway, it's good to know and I'm looking forward for the future improvement.

Thanks again,
Aldous
