vm replicas coming across from a vmx10 machine as vmx8 machines..?

Thread needs solution

Hi
I have noticed since we have upgraded our appliance(s) and VMs from vmx v8 to vmx v10 that the replicas are being copied/replicated over (from host 1 to 2) as vmx v8 still.
I assume this could affect the VM should we ever need to power up the vmreplicas, and also assume best practice would be to have the live and replicated VMs on vmx10.
Can you confirm what the issue is?

Thanks

ps - i have manually upgraded one of the vmreplicas to vmx10, however this was overwritten and vmx8 created.

Hi,

There is a known issue that the VM replicas are created with maximum available virtual hardware version for target ESXi host (10 for ESXi 5.5, 9 for ESXi 5.1) without preserving the original VM virtual hardware version. This doesn't affect the bootability of the VMs though. We've not seen though the reverse situation you describe (when the replica hardware version is lower than the original). If you want to make replicas 10th version then make sure you replicate over to ESXi version 5.5 and also try to create a new replication task.

Thank you.
