VM Snapshots will not be backed up

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We are using the trial version of VM Backup for VMs. I have backed up a VM with a size of 2.2GB including about 20 snapshots. The backup finished successfully but the backed up VM had no snapshots anymore.

Do I have overseen something? Thanks for helping me.

Hi Gerry,

Acronis products are using standard official vStorage API (VADP) provided by VMware to perform backup and recovery operations in vSphere. This API doesn't allow to preserve the VM snapshots states, so only the current state of the VM can be backed up.

The only possible workaround here is to revert the VM to the desired snapshot and create a backup of it afterwards - this will preserve the particular snapshot state in the backup, but it will not allow one to preserve the snapshots tree in case you restore from such backup.

Thank you.
