vmProtect internal error: different hash after rebackup

Thread needs solution

Dear Support,

we're experiencing the following error:

The error comes up when the Backup reaches 100% -> Internal error: different hash after rebackup

The error encounters only with Windows SBS (Small Business Servers). We don't have the errors with Terminal Servers or Standard Servers.

Server Configs are RAID1 and we encounter the problem with different customers

Thank you and Best Regards

Hi Alexander,

Such problems should be investigated individually with our support team. We've had 2 similar incidents so far and in both cases the error was triggered by problems on the datastore where the backed up VM resides. There were MD5 checksums mismatches for the virtual disks after taking the snapshot. The backed up disk (which is being read) is not supposed to be changed during backup on its own since it is a read-only one, but after further investigation we found that there were changes done to this disk while backup was running (caused by datastore problems, likely hardware-related). After changing the datastore the problem was gone. In your case it might be a different problem, so it makes sense to investigate it separately.

Thank you.

Dear Support,

our case is with acronis experts already. A datastore problem is out of the question because it happens with various servers/datastores in different locations/customers.

Thank you and Best Regards

Hi Alexander,

Thank you for the info! So if I correctly got the only common thing between all your customers is that the problem takes place with Windows 2011 SBS VMs, right? Could you please also let me know in private message the case ID you have got from our support, so that I can check it and followup where applicable.

Thank you.
