VMware Problem with CBT for ESXi 6.0 Build 3825889

Thread needs solution

We are experiencing this issue, where incremental backups are instead being treated as full backups.  From the KB article linked below,

Note: No data is lost or corrupted. Due to this issue, incremental backups are effectively full backups.

VMware Support is aware of this issue and are currently working on it.
This KB article will be updated once the fix for this issue is released.

After upgrading to ESXi 6.0 Build 3825889, incremental virtual machine backups effectively run as full backups when application consistent quiescing is enabled

Mike,

As mentioned in this article the workaround is to disable application-consistent quiescing in VM properties. An alternative workaround is to disable CBT usage in the backup task options. In this case the backup will read through entire virtual disk, but the size of the changes will still be calculated properly, i.e. the size of the backup will be effectively incremental, though the time for creation of such backup may be comparable with full backup time.

Thank you.
