Acronis cataloging service + Oracle Java

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I would like to know if there's some specific plan when you will get rid of Java SE from the installation package? Or maybe at least give an option not to install it.

In the KB 63128 you mentioned that "Acronis Cyber Backup installation package will have Java SE replaced with OpenJDK in one of the nearest major updates releases." , but this KB might now be maybe like year or two old and Java SE is still there.

In our company environment, we are supposed to not use Oracle Java (for license reasons) whenever it's possible, so we uninstalled it from all our Acronis servers and replaced with Java SE, but that's unfortunately not the final solution, as with every following update Java SE gets installed again (and I think it also changes JAVA_HOME variable which needs to be fixed afterwards).
That might not be a big deal if you have one or two Acronis servers (app servers/storage nodes), but if you have 40-50 of them, then it gets time consuming and annoying.

It would be great if you could replace Java SE soon or at least give us an option not to install it.

Thank you

Lukas

Hello Lukas,

thank you for posting your question on Acronis forums!

Oracle Java is going to be replaced with OpenJDK in one of the nearest major updates releases - we expect it to be replaced in the next product version.

Hello Maria,

So, by that you mean version 13, then. Ok, then we must wait.

Thank you for your answer Maria.
