Backup the Backup-Server itself

Thread needs solution

Hi

I got a hypervisor with 3 VMs on it. One of them is the Acronis backup server (which is also the backup storage). Besides the two other VMs I also want to make a full backup of the backup server. For me there are two open questions:

1. If I make a new backup plan for the backup-server VM, and I define an exception for the folder where the backups are stored, does this work for full backups or only for file/folder-based backups?

2. Is it in general a problem if the backup source (the VM to be backed-up) is the same as the backup-destination?

Hello Luca!

1. It should. An excerpt from the user guide (5.11.13 File filters)

Do not back up files matching the following criteria
Example: If you select to back up the entire machine and specify C:\File.exe in the filter criteria, only this file will be skipped.

2. Technically don't think so, though I think the suggested practice for this case is to create a secure zone, which explicitly says (5.3.1 About Secure Zone):

Enables recovery of a disk to the same disk where the disk's backup resides

It's however bad practice to both store your backups with the AMS and to have it be the only backup storage.
