Disk mapping unavailable
Hello,
does anyone know how Acronis Backup determines which backups can use Disk mapping when doing the recovery and which can only be used for volume mapping?
I haven't noticed this before, but since we updated to 16386 I noticed that recovery of some backups won't allow switching to disk mapping (button is missing). I would like to know what's causing it.
It's happening to various backups (in the whole archive) of mostly Windows 7 PCs.
Even for PCs that are part of the same backup plan (so the backup rules/settings are identical) - some of backups created by this backup plan can be recovered with both disk/volume mapping and some only with volume mapping (and volume mapping often doesn't work properly, that's why I'm asking about Disk mapping).
I would like to know what rule it follows to avoid it.
Thanks a lot
Lukas

Hello Ekaterina,
thank you, but based on what does Acronis decide if it allows only volume mapping or also disk mapping?
It returns no error, just defaults to volume mapping and doesn't allow switch to disk mapping (can only clear the volume mapping and set it a new)
For example, backup plan that has "what to back up" set to "Disks/volumes" and then "Items to back up" set by rules as "C:\" , [SYSTEM] and [BOOT] (I don't know why exactly did they set it up like that, I would just use system+boot myself, which should also include C:\ by default, right?).
I wonder why is it, that some backups made by this backup plan have both mapping options available and some allow only volume mapping?

Hello Lukas.
If not all the volumes on the drive were selected for a backup, then no disk mapping will be available, only volume mapping. When all volumes of the drive (= the entire drive) are present in a backup, then a drive mapping is available when restoring.

Hello Maria,
thank you, that fully answered my question.
