Excluding Acronis VM Appliance from VM Backups

Thread needs solution

What is the process for excluding the Acronis VM Appliance from VM Backups?  I did not see the option to exclude devices within the plan.

-Thank you.

Hi,

The backup appliances are not included into list of VMware VMs already, so when you create the backup plan, you can apply it to VM groups which won't include the appliances in it naturally. In other words you should create the backup plan from Devices->VMware view, rather than from Devices->All Machines (in All Machines the appliances will be shown in "All Machines" view) and as an additional variant you can use the groups management:

AddDevicesToGroup.PNG

If this doesn't help, can you please clarify how you apply the backup plan, e.g. how you perform the VMs selection? Some screen shots would be most helpful.

Thank you.

 Hello:
Is there any way to exclude only one VM from a Backup Plan that is applied at Pool level? This is beacause I have some VM replicas in vSphere environment and I don't want more backups for them.

Hi,

Currently it is not possible to apply exclusion rules to pre-defined VM groups such as resource pools or vApps (this feature is in our future plans, internal ID: "RM-438"). The workaround would be to add "{AB53A0F1-AD54-480f-80BB-FC72DC41DF53}" note to the VMs properties (via vSphere client), which you want to exclude - in this case these VMs will be treated as Acronis virtual appliances (you can check the same note on appliances VMs) and will be hidden from the backup console.

An alternative way would be to create custom dynamic groups based on search filters (see https://dl.managed-protection.com/u/cyberprotect/help/15/user/en-US/index.html#cshid=39148), though it will be less flexible, as there is no criteria to include "all VMs in specified resource pool" support yet.

Thank you.

Thank you for the recommendations.

I think I discovered another way to exclude just one VM from backup plan. Although it cannot be done from the programming of a protection plan, you can go to Devices> Select the device> Click on ...> Disable
