Filebackup och win xp/2000?

Thread solved

I want to backup files daily from one win XP and win 2000. Since I cannot install an agent on these old computers I have instead made a share from them that the Acronis management server can access. When I make a backup plan I specify the management server itself as Device, and under Items to backup I select the network path to the shared folder. This works fine but the downside is that the backup files gets the name of the management server which could be confusing.

Is it possible to specify a different filename for a backup plan? Or are there any other better backup solution for my problem?

Hello Pontus!

XP is still supported, you can install an agent on it, if you haven't already tried. With 2000 I don't see many options other than what you suggested.

You can set the naming scheme for your backup files within the backup options > Backup file name. This only helps though if you organise your backup plan to contain only a single machine. Then you can explicitly give the backup file name the name of that machine.

You'll may still have confusion if you have a backup of the AMS at the same storage location as your xp/2000 backups. They will all be listed as backups when you browse the AMS device.

As an alternate solution, especially if you have a lot of these machines I could see generating acrocmd commands as a desireable option. These also won't show up under your AMS as backups belonging to that device. Something like the below could work

foreach $comptuer in $your_computer_list{

acrocmd backup file \\$comptuer\<some common share name> --arc=$computer_<timestamp> --your-other-options

}

Thank you! The Backup options>Backup file name was the solution I was after.

The AMS and this file backup have different folder locations so I don't think there will be any confusion, If I understand your example correct.

I did not know XP was supported, good to know.

Has this option been removed in version 15? I cant find it anymore. The previous backups with uniqe name is still working in version 15 but I cant create new ones with uniqe name.

Maybe wrong part of the forum but since I wanted to continue with same solution as last time I try to ask here first.

Hello Pont!

Please refer to the following user-guide: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisCyberProtect…

The Select button is only available for protection plans that are created for and applied to a single device.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for the link, I have changed my backup name now. Not sure what you mean by Select button, but I changed my backup name under Plans->Protection and then selected my plan and choose Edit. Then under all ordinary "Backup" settings there is a Backup options at the bottom, and there you can edit Backup File name.

I don't remember where it was located in version 12, but for some reason I could not find it in version 15 but I don't understand why now because it is obvious now when I see it...
