Refreshing recovery points on a non existing storage location --> Error ?!?!?
Hey there,
today I received a strange error message:
The strange thing is:
Thet SMB location was removed some weeks ago and is not used in any of the plans....
Why does it try to refresh the recovery ponts ??
Again one of the myths of the Arconis database ?
Help is highly appreciated.
Regards
Sven

Hello Maria,
the storage location was deleted in december last year...and in between there were several backups of that agent, so the plan should be updated.
Really open a case with support team?
You know my experience.....

Hello Sven.
Really open a case with support team?
You know my experience.....
This issue requires remote assistance.
However, I suggest that you do the followings yourself:
1) Please check that this location is removed from Acronis Management Server (open Acronis Console -> Backups).
2) The problem can also persists if the backup location meta is still available on the Agent side. You can check the meta files in the following locations:
- for Windows: C:\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\Locations
- for Linux OS: /var/lib/Acronis/BackupAndRecovery\MMS\Locations
There you can find the respective meta file for the deleted backup location (in Windows, you can open the files using Notepad, in Linux, you can use cat command to check the file content). When you locate it, please do the following:
- stop Acronis Managed Machine service (for Windows: Start -> Run -> services.msc and stop the service, for Linux you can execute the following command under root account: "/etc/init.d/acronis_mm stop" or "service acronis_mms stop")
- delete the respective meta file
- start the service (for Windows: Start -> Run -> services.msc and start the service, for Linux you can execute the following command under root account: "/etc/init.d/acronis_mm start" or "service acronis_mms start")
If you have Active Protection enabled then it may block the delete operation. In this situation please disable it via the Acronis console first. Please do not forget to enable it back to be protected against Ransomware.

Hello Maria,
The location was clearly removed on the management server.
I then checked if the meta data is still available and it was, so I deleted it.
The strange thing: That meta data existed on all machines except on the machine where the Management Server resides on.
Why are these metadata not deleted?
It seems to be a bug for me or is there any need for a machine to have these meta data still available?

Hello Sven.

Why are these metadata not deleted?
The database with backup locations resides on the Management Server. The meta on the Agents stores their backup locations to continue back up in situations when AMS is not accessible.

Hello Maria,
unfortunately I must come back to this issue.
On 4th of April the error occurred again, altough I have removed all the metadatafrom all agents.
Why does ABU still wants to access a location that do not exist anymore?
Any hints or is this again one of the bugs in ABU that I must accept?

Hello Sven.
This should be investigated by Acronis Support Team. Since you do not want to contact the engineers, I recommend that you follow the instructions above and check whether the metadata for an old location is there.
