Traffic flow - Agent to Storage

Thread needs solution

We are backing up physical machines to a NAS.  On the Management Server, the NAS is defined as a Network Folder location, and the backup plan is pointing to that location.  The machines are behind a firewall.  When the backup plan executes, the plan fails, and I see the firewall blocking traffic from the pc's to the NAS.  I know I can open the ports, but why are the Agents themselves trying to backup directly to the NAS.  I thought all of the traffic would route through the Management Server.

Hello BackupGuy!

The agents send the data to the storage location directly, or in the case of a managed location to the storage node. Only control operations (apply, revoke plans) and agent status is sent to AMS.

The Best practices document has diagrams about the expected flow of communications and the ports needed.
