Windows 2003 Instant Restore Issue (lsi_sas.sys missing)

Thread needs solution

Hi Guys,

I was trying to instant restore an old server (Win 2k3 x64) and it was giving me the error (lsi_sas.sys missing) on the fixing the virtual bootability step of the restore.  Any hints on how to fix this

Regards

JC

Hi,

When you perform Instant restore (Run VM from backup) there is Acronis Universal Restore applied on fly, which tries to inject the drivers for corresponding detected OS from the image in order to allow it to boot on the target virtualization platform. The drivers are first searched within the \Windows\Inf\ directory inside the image + in the folders of machine where Acronis Backup Agent for VMware is installed. In your case it looks like there was .inf descriptor file found inside the backup, and thus it was scheduled for applying, while the corresponding lsi_sas.sys driver is missing in the folder.

In order to advise further we'll need to check the full log corresponding the instant recovery operation + please clarify whether the machine actually boots up, e.g. have you tried it (it may be the case there there is just a warning which doesn't affect the actual booting result)?

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

As per check, the VM doesn't boot up.  As for the log files can you guide on how to get the complete log file so that I can provide it for your inspection

JC

Hi,

In this case the proper way would be to continue troubleshooting via running full recovery of the machine via bootable media e.g. prepare a an empty VM and boot it from Acronis Backup 12 bootable media => then run Recovery wizard, browse the previously created backup and run the recovery (provide drivers if prompted). After recovery completes there will be a log file created which can be captured along with other diagnostic information including restored partitions structure: Help->Collect system report (from bootable media interface). After getting these details, please also capture a screen shot of the stage where Windows bootup stops and contact our support team for assistance (it's nearly impossible to fix such problems via a forum thread since the root cause is typically dependent on specifics of the restored backup/OS inside it).

Thank you.

Before one month ago i was also instant restore but it giving me the  error of  lsi_sas.sys missing but when i downloaded it then my issue is solved.
