Backup to Cloud very slow

Thread needs solution

Hallo,

vielen Dank !

Mario

Hello Mario,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

I suggest that you use Acronis Speed Test utility in order to check your backup and restore speed: https://kb.acronis.com/content/59690

I also recommend that you set Performance and backup window parameters for output speed and Start conditions in the scheduler (e.g. Fits the time interval) in order to start a backup to cloud at the time with the most appropriate network bandwidth.

Hello,

Thanks you for the feedback, but you suggestion does not really help.

The Issue is just when running VM Backup to the Cloud Storage. The same Jobs with local Storage as the Target is working fine. Also the Issue is not present when running Backup to the Cloud with physical Machines. So it seems to be an Problem when the Acronis Agent Appliance is taking an Snapshot of the VM, transfer the Data to the Cloud through the Acronis Management Server.

Does it make sense to add another Agent Appliance which is pointed direclty to the Cloud URL ?

many Thanks,

Hello Mario.

So it seems to be an Problem when the Acronis Agent Appliance is taking an Snapshot of the VM, transfer the Data to the Cloud through the Acronis Management Server.

Acronis Virtual Appliance transfers data directly to the Cloud.

Does it make sense to add another Agent Appliance which is pointed direclty to the Cloud URL ?

I recommend that you install Acronis Agent for Windows/Linux inside that virtual server and test backup to cloud speed this way.

Hi Maria,

i am talking about Acronis ESX Agent Appliance and not Management Server as a VMware Appliance.

Are you sure that the Agent Appliance is transfering Data directly to the Cloud, because the Agent does only knows the Management Server IP and not any Cloud URL.

Thanks,

Mario

Hello Mario.

The data is not transferred through Acronis Management Server to avoid double traffic. Moreover, in most cases, the Management Server does not have enough storage for placing these data temporarily.

When you indicate the Cloud as a backup location, the data directly transfers to this Cloud.

Hello,

o.k. but what you means with Management Server does not have enough space for temporary data?

When i run a Backup of VM XY to our local Storage it`s running 6 times faster than using the Cloud Storage. The Acronis Speed Test of our Internet Line (symentric) is showing 165 Mbps Download & 146 Mbps Upload Speed, so i guess we have the necessary Bandwidth. So the Question is why is the Upload to the Acronis Cloud so slow, because at the Moment i cannot find any bottleneck . . .

thank you,

Update !

I`ve installed the Acronis Appliance in addition to my Windows Server and tested the Cloud Backup Speed. On the Appliance it`s running much faster: Windows - 30 GB - 2 Hours / Appliance - 30 GB - 30 minutes. So maybe we switching to the Appliance instead of continuing using Acronis on Windows.

One question i have is: the Appliance has been joined to our AD Domain, but i cannot see the Domain under Settings/Accounts. When i try to add a Domain User or Group. I just can see the local Appliance Name. So is the Acronis all in one Appliance supporting AD Domain ?

Thanks,

Mario

Hello Mario.

I've got your point, thank you for the clarification. We have lost in the terminology. You were talking about Acronis Virtual Appliance and I recommended you to install simple Agents for Windows inside your VMs for testing backup to cloud speed. And you installed Acronis Backup Appliance which consists of a small CentOS VM with Acronis Management Server that you used for backing up to cloud. Sorry for that confusion.

However, I glad to know that you have sorted it out and is satisfied now with a backup to cloud speed by using Acronis Backup Appliance. In any case, I should admit that neither of the backup methods you use, your backup to cloud speed should be equal to upload speed that showed by Acronis Speed Test utility. If it is significantly low, that it might either due to your network architecture specifications (that is why I recommended testing another variant as a workaround) or any software issue which should be investigated by Acronis Support Team.

As for your last question, I should consult with experts.

Hello Mario.

Acronis Backup Appliance could be added to AD Domain as any other Linux system

Hi Maria,

Yes, i know, i already wrote in my last Message that our "All in One Appliance" has been joined to our Domain. But the Issue is that on the Web GUI in Settings/Administrator Section i cannot select our Domain when try to add Domain Users.

Thank you,

Hello Mario.

I can recommend following tutorials on how to integrate CentOS with Windows AD e.g. this one: https://www.linuxtechi.com/integrate-rhel7-centos7-windows-active-directory/

Hello,

Thanks for the Link, but already have completed this Steps.

I can login in SSH by using Active Directory Account but when i try to login over Appliance GUI i get the following error: access denied for user `xxx' from acronisagent. So looks like there is something missing which is also not documented in any Acronis KB.

Thank you,

Hello Mario.

Please login using root account, then add the required user to Acronis Centralized Admins group as described here (in Linux): https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_12.5/index.html#39120.html

Maria,

how can i add an Domain User when i am unable to see the AD Domain in Settings/Administrators on the Appliance GUI ? (see the Attachment) So the Question is does Acronis supporting AD Accounts on the All in One Appliance Administrator Level, because SSH is working for AD Accounts but login over the GUI by using the same AD Account gives the previous sent Error in the Appliance Log.

Thanks,

Hello Mario.

So the Question is does Acronis supporting AD Accounts on the All in One Appliance Administrator Level

As I have already answered above, yes it is supported like any other CentOS system.

I recommend that you collect Acronis System Information from Acronis All-in-one Appliance (Activities ->Collect System Information) and describe in detail how you added it to Windows AD. Please share this information and a link to this forum thread with Acronis Support Team who will be happy to investigate this issue.
