Clarification for difference between Acronis Advantage and maintenance

There seem to be multiple overlapping concepts for the eligibility of techincal support, updates, upgrades. Namely:
- Maintenance renewal
- Acronis Advantage
Looking at both of the above links I now can't figure out what's the relation between the two. I was under the impression maintenance is not required to recieve *updates*, while the Acronis Advantage page lists only some options as eligible for updates.

In our last invoice (for 12.5 perpetual workstation) it says "Renewal Acronis Premium Customer Support ESD", and links are included to Maintenance renewals. Meanwhile I found out Acronis Advantage is a thing so now I'm not sure what it is we actually have.

It's also unclear to me if maintenance is not renewed, can it be renewed later to be eligible for and upgrade to e.g. Cyber Protect 15, or do we need a licence upgrade at this point? If you have a perpetual licence but neither of the maintenance or acronis advantage is active, are you still eligible for updates?

If anyone can clarify I'd be much oblidged

Acronis Advantage is the name of a yearly renewable support program for Business products. 

Acronis Advantage Premier is the support program to renew the maintenance plan for the product.

You are correct. Acronis customers with expired maintenance are still eligible for downloading regular updates from their accounts. However, the special builds (updates) with fixes to some specific problems can not be compiled and provided for customers without active maintenance.

Acronis Advantage is the name of the service that you purchase from Acronis - the maintenance of your Acronis software.

If you have valid maintenance or an active subscription license, you can get a free upgrade license in your Acronis account, under the license you registered. Alll Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 licenses are directly upgraded to Acronis Cyber Backup 15 edition. Please see the differences between editions here: https://kb.acronis.com/content/65304

If you don't have valid maintenance for your perpetual license, you can either renew it in order to get a free upgrade or purchase a new Acronis Cyber Protect 15 license.
