Issue Restoring Server 2012R2

Thread needs solution

Hi There, please can someone offer some assistance.

I need to upgrade a server that has 4 x 240GB SSD drives in hardware RAID 5 and 2 x 4TB Normal drives in RAID1, Same Intel RMSuc080 RADI card.

The server has 5 hyper-V virtual servers located on the C Drive which is the RAID5 array of SSD's.
The 4TB Partition has a secondary VHD located on it for one of the Virtual servers.

I created a backup using Acronis 12.5 in the server and stored it on the 4tb Virtual Drive partition.

I remove the 4 x 240GB SSD drives, delete the virtual drive, install the new 960GB SSD x 4 and create the new RAID5 array and set it as boot drive and then boot using acronis boot disk.

I find the backup easily and start restoring. it completes restoring, with no errors. I reboot the system and it just hangs at the POST screen, prior to windows boot. the strange thing is, if I try and manually boot from the bus dev intel boot drive or even the “windows boot manager” as it shows in the boot options, it just hangs at the POST screen asking for f2 to enter bios, or f6 to enter boot options etc screen.

I have tried restoring using all checked options in the acronis boot disk, (Verify backup, Change SID etc) and still same issue.

On that screen, it is reported that a USB keyboard and USB mouse found, even when there is no usb keyboard or mouse plugged in.

If I enter F6 and try to boot from "Windows boot manager" same screen, if I try and boot from hardware raid drive, I get a flashing cursor at the bottom of the screen.

I cannot force it into the Windows Repair mode after trying to push the power button multiple times on that screen.

Its like its pausing just before loading the operating system or something.

I cannot get into the RAID hardware config by hitting ctrl and G if the boot priority is set to boot from "Windows boot manager". I need to set it to boot off of something else (IBA or CDROM) if I want to get into the intel raid card.

It just hangs at that screen.

Can any one help?

Hello Tash,

welcome to Acronis forums!

When you booted your new 4*960GB RAID 5 with Acronis Bootable Media, did the media correctly detect this array or as separate disks?

When you did a backup of your source drive, have you selected the system reserved partition to be included in a backup? If yes, have you selected this system reserved partition during restore?

I recommend that you check the following step-by-step instruction (the Recovery part) of the respective KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/35681
