Ports Open

Thread needs solution

KB 1711, Firewall settings for Acronis products, is an extensive description of the (complex) networking needs for interoperability of Acronis products.

Once you get past determining which exact product you have (is Acronis Backup 12.5 the same as Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5? the naming structure is terrible, way too similar), you get to the section you need to look into. For example, i[dot]imgur[dot]com[slash]P0VTjPE.png (can one post images in this forum system? no. can I post a link to an image, even after being a member for 7 years? no)

Note it states "TCP ports 443, 44445, and 55556 for backup to cloud", but there is also a "Acronis Backup Cloud, Acronis Backup 12.5 cloud deployment, Acronis Backup 12 cloud deployment" section below. Maybe backup to cloud should be entirely in it's own section?

Do I need to allow the ports for the acrocmd, acropsh cmds? I don't know if I am using these tools.

It is way too confusing for me (been using acronis products for over 10 years, and back up software for 20+). Imagine for a regular end user!

So bottom line, disregard all of the above if you will, but pls hear me out:

Feedback: make a port opening guide by use case. for example: I am backing up a Linux server and I only installed the linux agent. Which ports do I need to open on the linux machine to successfully manage it from another machine? Oh, you want to add remote installation/upgrade? Also open these ports.

Question: are you guys serious that for the use case above I need ALL of these open??445,5905,7780,7755,7756,7765,9852,9860,9862,9876,9877,25001,43234/tcp

Thank you

Hello Eddie!

Once you get past determining which exact product you have (is Acronis Backup 12.5 the same as Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5? the naming structure is terrible, way too similar), you get to the section you need to look into

Acronis Backup has been recently renamed to Acronis Cyber Backup. See this announcement. It's the same product.

For example, i[dot]imgur[dot]com[slash]P0VTjPE.png (can one post images in this forum system? no. can I post a link to an image, even after being a member for 7 years? no)

I'm not aware of image posting limitations. Even if external links are not working you could simply upload the screenshot to the forums (upload below the post edit box) instead of imgur.

As for the usage of specific ports take a look at the architecture/communication diagram on p.84 in this document: https://dl.acronis.com/u/pdf/AcronisBackup_12.5_BP_en-US.pdf

Do I need to allow the ports for the acrocmd, acropsh cmds? I don't know if I am using these tools.

If I rememer correctly acrocmd is not installed by default, only if you explicitly want to be installed. If you don't plan to call acronis operations from cmd or powershell you likely don't need it and can block the corresponding port.

Hello Eddie,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

As I can see, Peter has already answered your questions. Thus, I post some clarifications.

In order to add an image to the forums post, please click on the image icon:

Acronis Forum File Manager will be opened in a separate window. Please press Upload-> Add image, navigate to the respective file and then select it from the list.

The cloud backup consoles in Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 cloud deployment and Acronis Cyber Backup Cloud are based on Acronis Cyber Cloud platform, they use similar ports for accessing the backup console, registering the agents, downloading the certificates, user authorization, and downloading files from the cloud storage. That is why they are combined in one section in this article.

However, you are welcome to share your feedback on this KB article by scrolling it down and voting at "Was this article helpful" pane where you could write your comments.

There is such KB article for Windows services and processes with their description (purposes) and respective ports (so you can decide which ports you would keep closed if you do not need a respective software component): https://kb.acronis.com/content/60085

However, thank you for your suggestion. We will update an existing KB article for Linux services (will add respective ports to each service, they are available in the documentation provided above by Peter): https://kb.acronis.com/content/60802

As I answered above, you can keep a port closed if you do not use a respective Acronis Cyber Backup component (e.g. Acronis Active Protection Service, Acronis Removable Storage Management Service, Acronis PXE Server, etc.)
