Problem running CLI backups that previously worked.

Thread needs solution

Hello, I have problem with Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5. The problem is that it keeps creating duplicate backups of the one I created. None of the Backups it creates are useable. When I open up the web interface, I keep getting the message that states this “The activity has failed due to a planned restart of the operating system.” I don’t have any planned restart. Does anyone know what I should look at to fix this? Thanks

After doing some more testing, I found an answer to my problem. It seems like trying to exclude certain filenames is problematic when using them in a command line string. I have a completed backup that performed incorrectly, and I have the log file that proves it. If anybody wants to take a look and comment, take a look at this. In this backup I attempted to include a file named "D:\Stuff\FileMaker\H2Code\C%3A%5CDOUtil%22tc%2Em3u". This is not a typical type of file. It has no file extension, and it has literal syntax that is simalar to HTML encoding. However, if this was my file, I should be able to back it up...or not. I have included the Log.txt file and photo of what the resulting backup looked like. Notice that the excluded file was included in the backup. It clearly states in the log file to exclude it. Why does this happen and how can I exclude a file like this so it does alow it to work properly. Thanks

Hello Chris!

I created a similar configuration to yours, but I couldn't reproduce this. See the setup and results in the attachments.

According to this kb https://kb.acronis.com/content/61650, the “The activity has failed due to a planned restart of the operating system.” could be an indication of a service crash. Check that if the case, but you should probably contact support in either case and have them take a look at it.

Hello Chris,

thank you for posting these questions on Acronis forum!

1)

The problem is that it keeps creating duplicate backups of the one I created.

Please note that if you manually start a scheduled backup plan and there is a backup successfully created, this backup plan will still start at a scheduled time again and will create one more backup. If it is not your case, then navigate to Plans tab in UI and analyze backup plans listed there.

I also recommend that you use Acronis Scheduler Manager utility in order to delete duplicated tasks.

2)

I keep getting the message that states this “The activity has failed due to a planned restart of the operating system.” I don’t have any planned restart. Does anyone know what I should look at to fix this?

I agree with Peter and also advise that you check the respective KB article https://kb.acronis.com/content/61650 and open a case with Acronis Support Team if no reboot occurred.

3)

Notice that the excluded file was included in the backup. It clearly states in the log file to exclude it. Why does this happen and how can I exclude a file like this so it does alow it to work properly.

I recommend that you open a case with Acronis Support Team since this issue requires testing. Please create a backup of this file and share it (if it does not break any security rules) with support engineers for testing purposes.
