Shutdown after Backup

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i bought Acronis Server 12.5 and i want to customize that after backup is finished,  the Server is shutdown.

I can't find the point in the Software. In Acronis TrueImage 2018 it is possible to set this parameter.

Regards and thanks for your replay

Hi!

You'll need to specify a Post-backup command in the Backup Options of a related plan. To modify the backup options, click the gear icon next to the backup plan name, and then click Backup options.

Shutdown_postcommand.PNG

One addition from me:

"After Backup" is right in the moment when the backup process ends.

If a validation or replication is specified in the backup plan and this is executed on the machine that is to be shutdown you will have an issue as the machine is shutdown during the task execution.

In my system I specify a delay time in the shutdown command that is long enough for all tasks to finish.

I think it would be a good thing if Acronis implements a "shutdown if really everything is finished".

Another point:
The "command after backup" is not executed if the "command before backup" has a failure!

Sven

Thank you for your comment, Sven! Valid points, indeed.  Some changes in this field are planned by the product management for the future versions (ABR-111319: built-in option Shutdown machine or put into sleep after the backup and ABR-111317: Post command that runs after all operations in the backup plan), but no exact ETA so far.

Hi,

i just downloaded last build 12.5.11010 but seems no options relative to feature "ABR-111317" (Post command after all operations).

There are any news about this feature?

Thanks,

Iuri

Hello Iuri,

thank you for your posting! I've checked the status of the feature request - it is still in backlog (means it's not planned for a particular release), however, I've added your comment as a vote for this feature.

Thank you!

Does the issue have any solution yet? Is there any way I can perform a command after all is done (validation, replication etc.)?

Hi, in the current build it is possible to execute commands either before\after the backup procedure, or before\after data capture (that is, taking the data snapshot)

Thanks for the information.

Is this the implementation of "ABR-111317: Post command that runs after all operations in the backup plan" or is it still the "old" behaviour that this command is executed after the backup command but the validation and replication and so on happens after command execution?

If it is the implementation and the commend is really executed after all tasks in the plan please let me know where I can find this option.

S.

ABR-111317 hasn't been implemented yet, so the old behavior.

So to sum up,
your answer is not a YES on the question mudr.tomas.nosek posted.

Is there any information source where a customer as me can see a list of the open issues and the status of them or is this the secret box of Acronis?

Honestly spoken I am quite disappointed as so much features were deleted from 11.7 to 12.5 and in my opinion 12.5 is no tool for an IT professional any more as a lot of basics are missing.

We're planning to introduce a separate forum section with the voting mechanism for feature requests.
Currently, you can either contact the support team to get the status update on the desired feature requests or ask here on forum.

Hello Ekaterina,
it´s a bit funny as I get this answer since roughly 3 years now that there are plans to do so.

And the hint to ask the support:
- If I have no possibility to see the feature requests I cannot ask what the status is.
- I do not know whether my problem is already addressed in a feature request and mostly the support tells me only "yes planned for the future" but not the number.

So Acronis leaves me as a paying customer rather alone in these points and I only get the information "yes planned for the future"....

But up to now...all of the "planned" stuff never was realized within years....examples:
- WOL
- a command execution really after all tasks are completed
- a possibility to move a management server to a different machine without loosing information
- shutdown after all tasks of a plan are executed

Sven

Hi everybody,

It's 2020 now November 1 and still no solution for this? This is a "no go"!

I have a customer where we were backing up the clients (Windows 10 machines) with Acronis TI. Now we switched to "workstation licenses" to execute and manage the client backups within ACB (latest version, Build 16363). If i use the shutdown command (C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /f) in the "pre-post commands" the client is shut down after backup, just like it should. BUT if i have a replication going on to another backup location:

1. The replication is started

2. The replication gets interupted

3. I get an error message saying: "The operation is canceled by the user"

Well i'm kind of lost for words here...

Acronis, really now??

We all know you guys are better than this!

Regards,

Sasha

It is really sad, that so important features have been still missing:
- WOL
- a command execution really after all tasks are completed
- a possibility to move a management server to a different machine without loosing information
- shutdown after all tasks of a plan are executed

Could you please focus on it finally...

Hello!

I'm curious, what's the use-case for shutting down after backup?

@Sasha Wouldn't making a separate replication plan solve the same thing? Or as Sven noted earlier with a timeout?

-- Peter

Well Peter,
Shutdown after backup for me is the counterpart of WOL:

I wake up a lot of machines to backup at night.
And the Timeout is only a workaround for me.

The big problem with the timeout: ist must be long enough to guarantee the completion of all parts of the backup.

And so I have a timeout of 90 minutes.
Although in some cases the timeout would be enough with 10 minutes, bit the next run has then a longer duration (cleanup, some scirpts that are running...).

And if then each machine runs 1 hour too long, that´s on one side energy that is wasted and on the other side a financial issue:
14 machines, 1 hour per day at 220 working days, each machine 50 Watt gives 154kWh that have to be paid.
Yes, its only roundabaout 50 bucks, bit it´s also money.

Sven

Hello Sasha, Tomas, and Sven!

Thank you for sharing your use cases for shutting down after the backup plan completion feature! This feedback is really valuable to us. I have transferred all your comments to the respective manager. I have also added your votes to the feature request (ABR-111319). To be honest, shutting down after the backup plan completion is not planned to be implemented in the nearest future.

So there are now 2 requests:

- ABR-111317

- ABR-111319

and both are still planned?

Can you comprehend, that I am very disappointed because at least the ABR-111317 (a command that is executed really at the end of the backup) is now planned for 2 years and still no realization due?

Honestly spoken:
Why should I keep on paying for maintenance, if dropped features (WOL) or demanded features (that are demanded by several customers) are not planned at all?
The features that came since 11.7 were - at least for me - only bling bling and fancy GUI stuff, but not really new core features.

A very disappointed

Sven

Hello Sven.

So there are now 2 requests:

- ABR-111317

- ABR-111319

and both are still planned?

Yes, these features both are still planned and linked with each other:

ABR-111317 - Post command that runs after all operations in the backup plan

ABR-111319 - Shutdown machine or put into sleep after the backup (when agent that backing up this machine completed all actions related to particular backup plan)
