Task with GFS scheme...why 2 backups on 1st of month ?!?!?

Thread needs solution

Hey there, in the fast weeks I digged much deeper in the activity logs than I die before. Abdnd more and more weird beaviour of ABA 12.5 come up. Here is the next one: I have a plan tha was created with the GFS scheme. Now I have 2 questions: a) GFS becomes custom Right after creatin the scheme changes to custom - why ? b) 2 backups on first of the month The scheduler is setup to create a full backup on the first of the month, each saturday a differential one and on each other day an incremental. Why are there always 2 backups on the first of the month: trhe full and the one according to the day of week (either diff or inc)? My expectation was, that on the first of the month only one backu is made.... Can anyone explain? Regards S.

Hello Sven,

glad to see your posts on Acronis forums!

a) GFS becomes custom
Right after creatin the scheme changes to custom - why ?

This is Monthly full, Weekly differential, Daily incremental scheme (GFS)

This backup scheme is displayed as a Custom scheme on the backup plan panel because you can modify the schedules and the time to run the backup. However, this schedule is preset: incremental backups are performed on a daily basis, Monday to Friday; differential backups are performed every Saturday; full backups are performed on the first day of each month.

In the real Custom scheme, you should specify schedules for full, differential, and incremental backups.

b) 2 backups on first of the month
The scheduler is setup to create a full backup on the first of the month, each saturday a differential one and on each other day an incremental.

This happens when the first day of the month comes on Monday to Friday (for incrementals) or on Saturday (for differentials). You can customize this scheme and set the full backup to be performed e.g. on the last Sunday of the month.

Maria,

sorry for the amount of posts, but I simply use your product and come to so many points that are weird wo me....

This happens when the first day of the month comes on Monday to Friday (for incrementals) or on Saturday (for differentials). You can customize this scheme and set the full backup to be performed e.g. on the last Sunday of the month.

So you confirm this behaviour - thanks.

The suggested change in plan does not help me:
It´s a common best practice to do a full backup on the first or last day of a month.

And this is simply impossible with ABA...so for me the behaviour of ABA, to run the task twice if the first (or last) day of a month come to a day that normally is configured for diff or incrementals is simply a bug.

Sorry for this hard word, but I think others will agree with me in that point.

Regards
Sven

Hello Sven

we've passed this thread to the product management and they agreed the GFS scheme needs to be improved (the respective task RM-727). Thank you for bringing this up to our attention!
