Physical drive failure in ACI Node

Thread solved

This am we have a drive fail in our Primary Node

drive was 0,0,0 in a Dell server /dev/sda

installed drives were /sda thru /sdk

When we replaced the drive, the new drive became, /dev/sdn, active

sda is still listed as failed

anyone seen this behaviour?  will sda be gone forever?

Hello Bill,

This is expected behavior if the logical drive /dev/sda was not released from the WebCP. ACI creates internal services (CS,MD,Cache) which maps to the logical devices. In case of a failure you should release the disk first which means the internal service will be destroyed and re-created once the disk is replaced.

Fully redundant system duplicates all components (CS,MD) and is configured to make sure that the duplicate components replicated  in case of a failure. In that case you can proceed with force release of the /dev/sda via the WebCP.

If you have any additional issues or question with regards to the disk release via the WebCP, do not hesitate to submit support request so we can assist further.

When sda showed up as a failed device, I did try to "release" it

response from the system is "response failed"  it is still showing that 5 days later

The cluster still shows "degraded"

The new device /sdn is active but the node it is in is still in progress of doing "something" in the infrastructure page"

Hello Bill,

It appears to me the logical drive (/dev/sda) may stuck with status 'releasing' via the database in which case we need to manually release the disk.

Please submit support request with Subject 'Disk stuck in 'releasing'' so we can fix the issue. Additionally, please provide us with remote access to the ACI cluster based on the following KB:
