Backups not auto deleting from Cloud Storage

Thread needs solution

We use the cloud as our sole storage location. Have "Entire Machine" jobs created using a Full/Incremental scheme and we've customised it to keep Inc's for only (7) days. Unfortunately; all the incs from 10/2 are still taking up space.

Am I missing something or shouldn't that (7) day setting have made those automatically disappear?

Hello Vince.

They should disappear after 7 days in fact but please note that sometimes the vault gets outdated and you don't see the real values. I advise you to refresh it manually. Please refer to this KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/69849

I advise you to check the backup in the Web Restore console instead, there the values are real and synched: https://kb.acronis.com/content/36478

Also please make sure you keep the agents always up to date, that may help with this.

Feel free to update the thread if you have any questions.

Good Morning Jose,

All agents are updated; I just manually did this last Friday.

In the Management Portal\Monitoring\Usage, the figure matches what's in the Cyber Protect Console.

Stored backups def. are not auto purging based on the settings I had set up.

When I try to go to Web Reports; I just get a blank screen that says "There are no machines yet in the Cloud". I know I am signed in b/c I see my email address and sign out option to the top right of the page.

We are long time Backup Exec users that just switched to Acronis. As I'm using this product more and more; I'm finding it has some very flaky issues that have no rhyme/reason or consistency. For example; when I try to look at individual jobs in the Backup Storage section; sometimes the password provided works, sometimes it doesn't. It's the same one that I copy and paste so there's no reason for it to work sometimes and get rejected others.

Hello Vince.

If the values match I suggest you to raise a ticket with our support. We need to investigate with the retention rules aren't working as they should.  https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153

Default (Always incremental, single-file; Monthly – 6 months, Weekly – 4 weeks, Daily – 7 days)

Assuming today is 16.Feb.2021 and the backups started on the 01.Jun.2020, ran on a daily basis without failures with weekly backup on Monday, we have:

  • Monthly set:
    • 01.Jun.2020 (8 months and 14 days old – more than 6 months – deleted)
    • 01.Jul.2020 (7 months and 14 days old – more than 6 months – deleted)
    • 01.Aug.2020 (6 months and 14 days old – more than 6 months – deleted)
    • 01.Sep.2020 (5 months and 14 days old – less than 6 months – present)
    • 01.Oct.2020, 01.Nov.2020, 01.Dec.2020, 01.Jan.2021, 01.Feb.2021 (less than 6 months – present)
  • Weekly set:
    • Mondays up to 18.Jan.2021 (4 weeks and 1 day old – more than 4 weeks – deleted)
    • 25.Jan.2021 (3 weeks and 1 day old – less than 4 weeks – present)
    • 01.Feb.2021 – defined as monthly, not related to weekly set (same applies to 01.Jun.2020), the rule is ignored
    • 08.Feb.2021, 15.Feb.2021 (less than 4 weeks – present)
  • Daily set:
    • Any daily backup up to 08.Feb.2021 (more than 7 days – deleted)
    • 09.Feb.2021 (7 days – present, but will be deleted when retention starts)
    • 10-14.Feb.2021 (less than 7 days – present)
    • 15.Feb.2021 – defined as weekly, not related to daily set, the rule is ignored
    • 16.Feb.2021 (less than 7 days – present)

Best regards.

I just dove a little deeper into the options and noticed there is a "Weekly" feature where you can only set the day.

If we are running monthly full/Mon - Thurs incrementals, how does that "Weekly" option play along w/ what I have custom set up? I don't see a way to disable that built-in weekly option.

Please check the definition of Weekly backup. It can't be disabled: This option determines which backups are considered "weekly" in retention rules and backup schemes. A "weekly" backup is the first backup created after a week starts.

Trust me; I read as much as I could before I even made my previous post.

In Backup Exec; I had the same custom scheme setup that I do in Acronis now but never had the built-in weekly option crammed down my throat.

My question still stands; if I have a monthly full along w/ incrementals (every Mon - Thurs) set up, does that mean Acronis is still going to run a one-off weekly as well?

Or does that weekly thing mean that Acronis will simply treat my Monday Incremental as the "Weekly" backup?

Exactly. The weekly backup is the first backup you set up for the week, and it cannot be disabled.

If you have any further questions, please raise a ticket with our support team, providing details about your backup plan so we can review it. Without logs and information, it's not possible to analyze these types of issues: https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153
