How to create a system image?

Thread needs solution

Long time Backup Exec admin but completely new to Acronis world.

I have been messing around in the Cloud Portal and figured out how to create/run backups and do file and machine level backups so long as the machine's agent is online

If a machine/agent is offline, how do I recover/restore it to a point prior to a failure. For those old enough, a situation similar to using the old Norton Ghost products. I want to take a snapshot/system image at any point in time and be able to use it to restore a server to that exact condition.

I've read that Acronis had "True Image"; is that feature (or the equivalent) a part the Cyber Protect product?

I've been looking and looking so any help is highly appreciated.

Hello Vince,

You need to boot into the Acronis Recovery Environment to restore an offline machine. You can achieve this a few ways:

  • Enable recovery environment *prior* to failure (This will make the boot image available on a system reserved partition, and will popup a "press a button to boot into Acronis Recovery Environment" at boot time)
  • Configure PXE
  • Create a Bootable Media with the Bootable Media Builder

Which is more suitable depends on your requirements and the situation.

You can enable Continuous data protection (CDP) to achieve "any point in time".

About True Image: It's a separate product aimed at Home users and small businesses. There's overlapping functionality with Cyber Protect, but they are different products.

Hello Vince.

Welcome to the forum!

If the machine is offline and you want to recover in there the backup you need to create a Bootable media as mentioned by Peter.

Please refer to the following documentation:

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisCyberProtect…

https://kb.acronis.com/content/60140

Feel free to contact if you have any questions.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks 4 both your replies.

CDP is enabled.

I did create bootable media but when I try to connect to cloud server, I get registration errors even though the target server has def. been registered.

Not sure if this matters; I am currently using just trial version and there is no Acronis management server installed anywhere in my infrastructure. Was hoping to solely use cloud panel for all management and recovery.

 Hello Vince!

I have raised a ticket with our support. The reference is 06010536 .

You can expect a reply as soon as possible.

Thanks.

@Jose

Thanks, appreciate it.

And I get the same error whether I use a pre-generated reg. code or try logging in. Either way, it will stay in the 'connecting' phase for quite a while before throwing the error.

Hello!

Our support sent you an email in order to schedule a remote session.

Please accept the invitation and reply to the email so our engineer can be aware.

Thanks in advance!

@Jose

After last week's remote session w/ Acronis Tech, I am set now. I was not setting the network up properly.

Even after network configured properly, it would not show any data in Cloud Storage. He installed some tool on my laptop that allowed me to create an ISO from it rather than the cloud. After this, I could then see all the backups that had been run and was able to complete a 'system restore' properly. I ran through the process using various restore points and all worked just fine.

Thanks for your time and getting me in touch w/ support.
