How to recover files from Version 11 Backup files
Using Acronis Cyber Protect Build: 15.0 Console version: 15.0.4506 Server version: 15.0.35979.
I would like to recover some files from backups done on another machine that are in Version 11 format.
I go to Backup Storage > Locations > Add Location select the drive + folder containing the backups.
There backups are displayed, showing Backup Format 11.
Select one and click on show backups. 'No Backups' is displayed.
How can I show the backups?
How can I recover files?

Thanks for the reply.
The backups were created with Acronis Backup 11.7 (latest build).
I don't see any way to validate them using Cyber Protect 15. Your link specifies to create a validation plan via Plans > Validation. I can find no menu or other item like that. The only validation I can find is via Backup Storage, when selecting a backup. However, since the backups in question are not recognized, that option doesn't exist.
I can open the backups via Windows Explorer and copy files that way. However, it simply doesn't work with large folders and it would be much simpler selecting specific folders if it could be done via the recovery process.
Exporting the backups and/or updating the agent is not possible since the machine that created the backups is dead.
I'm wary of the bootable media idea as the media would be for the current live machine. If Cyber Protect won't recognize the backups, I don't see why doing it via boot would be any better.
As for support, I've been using Acronis' products for many, many years and had kept up maintenance every year. However, as of last year, maintenance is no longer available for Cyber Protect 15 or earlier. According to https://kb.acronis.com/content/6031 there is no support option available for me as neither subscription nor maintenance is active.
So, any additional suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello!
The fact they were created with an old version and the machine doesn't exist anymore creates additional difficulties in the operation, specially because the ACP15 just supports the file version 12.
You could try to re-install the 11.7 in some machine and from there access the backups, even if that's not an easy method probably would help you better in this case.
I also suggest you to try the recover with the WinPE bootable media as suggested above, access the vault with the backup and try the recover.
Best regards.

Thanks,
The old machine was Windows 10 and 11.7 was installed early on. The current machine is also Windows 10, but installation for 11.7 fails. I can only guess that some Win 10 update is the cause.
I don't quite understand how booting the current machine with bootable media would make a difference. Wouldn't it still be using v15 and have the same issue?

It could work from the perspective that you mentioned; the file appears in the console. I would give it a try with the Bootable Media as a test and check if the same behavior occurs. This is especially important because you are trying to perform a recovery of a backup on dissimilar hardware. Even if the backups appeared correctly in the console, there is a high chance of failure during recovery if you attempt it directly from there due to the dissimilar hardware situation.
Regarding the installation of 11.7 in fact the new updates can cause issues with the installation as that product is outdated. You can try to download the 3 different builds available and check if at least one of the them works.
Best regards.
